Well, Donald Trump is the new President.
It's fine. I didn't vote for him, but it's okay. I'm not going to protest or cyber-argue with others on Facebook. I'm a little bummed and a little nervous, but I'm gonna keep on living. I'm a straight, white male, so I guess I'm in the clear. I don't really like talking politics, but I'm going to for a little bit tonight. Politics really intrigues me--a little like religion does. At least in the sense of how it affects people. Now, I'm not very educated on either, but I have ideas. One of my thoughts is, at least as far as my own self is concerned, that you can educate yourself as much as you want, but you're still not going to tap the surface. Even if you filter through all the media, check the facts, and read up on the system, there is still an ass-load of goings-on behind closed doors that you and I will never know about. I know, it's shallow, maybe a little conspiracy-esque, but I guess I find comfort in being fairly confident that no one knows everything. So, what can I do to help "make a difference"? Yeah, I can cast my one vote for the candidate that I choose. Aside from that, I suppose that I can passive-aggressively argue with strangers on Facebook and troll other political websites for propaganda that fits neatly within my beliefs. I can debate others with fuel from the media, going back and forth as to why this candidate is saintly and the other candidate is evil. I don't care enough, though. Really. It's time wasted. I'm very intrigued why people vote for specific candidates, especially during this campaign. Did you vote for Hillary primarily because she's a woman? Did you vote for her because you have labeled yourself as a Democrat and you vote Democrat regardless? Did you genuinely agree with most everything she stood for? Or was she just the lesser of two evils? And Donald; Did you vote for him because you believe he'll do the things that he said he would do? Because he "says it like it is"? Time to shake things up? Or just because you're a blue collar worker or cop and that's what you're supposed to do? Trump won. So did you vote for Donald Trump, or did you vote for a "Republican"? I am not downing anyone's choice, as long as they had good reason to vote for that person. Clearly, both candidates had their faults. But at the end of the day, I personally voted for the person that I felt would represent our country best, be the best leader, and help us progress. I didn't think Trump would be good at any of those. Still don't. Hope the crazy fucker proves me wrong. I was never that into politics growing up. Back then, especially around my group, that wasn't uncommon. We were kids. We listened to punk rock music and caused hijinks. Even when I became of voting age I didn't care. You're gonna raise my taxes? Okay. You're gonna lower my taxes? Okay. You're going to do this and this and this? Okay, don't care. I set the bar so incredibly low for politicians that if none of their promises came true, oh well. Then if something good that they promised actually happened, it was just a real nice surprise. Now that I'm all growsed-up, I guess I give a shit a little more. I care about human rights. I care about jobs. I care about the environment. So I pay a little more attention. And man, after this election that we all just went through, maybe young, no shit-giving me was onto something. Once again, the bar is set incredibly low. Surprise me. I'm not bitching because my candidate didn't win. I'm not mad because my party didn't win. I've just become amazed at the absolute shittyness that politics brings out in people. Even the candidates. No wonder we're so divided...we're all dicks. We need to lose the labels. So many labels. I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a Republican. I'm not a Libertarian. I'm Matt Fucking Todd. And if you only need to be born in America and over 35 to be President, maybe you'll see me in 2020. MFT 2020. //re.
